In this guide we have illustrated some details about
on ebay and other domains that will help you weed out the fakes. This is
in no way a conclusive or complete guide to every detail about Gucci, but it has
enough information to highly increase you chances of spotting the fake Gucci handbags.
Combining some of these brand specific points with the universal tells we have listed should
help keep you insulated from many of the fake
on ebay.
Note: Many of the images we show to highlight a specific tell, also have another tell
within the same photo. When this occurs we will try to point out the secondary tell also.
However, on occasion we may miss some of the secondary tells in the photos. So we encourage
you the reader to inspect the images for other tells to help increase your spotting skills.
We recommmend that you read our tutorial Spot Fake Handbags
first, to learn the universal tips essential to build a foundation for spotting fake handbag tells. Then reinforce that
foundation with the brand specific tells we highlight here.
As we
get more details we will add them.
Also, if you the reader have anything else to add, please email it to us, we will be glad to
add it to the site, info@spotfakehandbags.com. If we use your tip we will reference you
and add your web/blog link if applicable.
Gucci products, unlike Chanel, Fendi & Coach, do not have "registerable" serial numbers.
All Gucci handbags have model numbers on the underside of the tag. The front of the tag
always states, " Gucci, made in Italy, with a ® above for registered trademark. It is
helpful to have a fundemental knowledge of Gucci products, specifically the changes that they make from
season to season. Some notes:
Gucci tag fonts may be different depending on what region of Europe
they were manufactured. But the majority of the time the font is a big tell
for spotting fake Gucci.
Gucci is also one of the few designers to sell out of season
imperfects or overtocks in their outlet stores and to brokers.
For Spring 08 Gucci has changed the bottom row number
for many of their handbags. These numbers have been in place for several years,
this will create some modest difficulty for buyers and sellers.
Up until the current season, the bottom row serial number has been one of the
biggest indicators of a non authentic Gucci product.
We will start with the first details we see: 1. Materials/logo patterns: Here we will be scrutininzng some exterior features common on
Gucci handbags.
Below is an image of a Gucci handbag that looks OK:
Note: And to help with the overall apprearance,
the dust bag looks genuine too.
The image below is the same handbag: The image shows upon closer inspection the irregularity of the GG pattern,
a clear example of a fake Gucci handbag. Note the different sizes and shaped patterns:
Below is an image of a real Gucci handbag:
Note: The symetrical pattern, there is no irregularity within the overall GG logo
pattern:
2. Dustbags: Below are images of fake Gucci dustbags.
Fake Dustbag:
Fake Dustbag:
Note: There are some irregular logo patterns noticible in this image of
the fake Gucci handbag (below). These irregularities in the logo pattern are similiar
to the ones pictured earlier (pictured above in: 1. Materials/logo patterns)
and are a clear indication (without seeing the phony dustbag)
that this is a fake Gucci handbag.
Fake Dustbag:
Now lets take a look at some of the interior characteristics of a Gucci handbag.
3. Interior labels: Always check out the label inside of the handbag. Here we will
highlight some points to look for that will indicate whether a handbag is authentic or not.
Below is an image of an authentic Gucci label:
Note: The quality of the matierial, the even stitching and the clarity of
the logo impressions. Use this image as a reference to compare the real features with the
images of the fake features.
Below is the image of a label inside a fake Gucci handbag:
Note: The poor impression (the clarity of the stamp) and the uneven stitching.
The contrast between the real label (above), and the fake label (below),
is quite clear.
The image (below) brings us to an important clue when spotting fake Gucci bags:
4.The font:
Many times the Gucci font (style of letters) on fake bags will be incorrect. Gucci
has a very distinct font (although in rare cases it may vary depending on the area of Euprope it
was manufactured), furthermore, it is something that is rarely perfected by counterfeiters. Below is an image of a label with a incorrect Gucci font:
Note: The overly round letters, compared to the more stylish letters in the above
example (two pics up) of the authentic label. Also note the label below is not evenly
centered.
The image below is another example of an incorrect Gucci font:
Note: This overly rounded font is similiar to the fake pictured above. An overly rounded font
is a common mistake by counterfeiters. More examples of incorrect Gucci fonts can be found
in our Spot Fake Sunglasses tutorial.
Below is another bad Gucci font:
In this example the font looks too puffy, and the impressions are not crisp and clear.
Note: This example also has some universal fake handbag elements that we
talk about here. Notice the stitching on the zipper pull,
it is poor quality and uneven. The incorrect font with the uneven stitching creates an
airtight case for this being a fake Gucci handbag.
Also note that the stitching on the authentic zipper pull pictured in the above example, "3. Interior labels,"
is not visible (scroll up to 3. Interior labels to compare zipper pulls).
