Logo tags/hangtags: Coach uses logo tags that are attached by a beaded metal chain that clips on and attaches the tag to the handbag. Usually, the tag should match the trim of the bag. The words "COACH" should be embossed, or raised. The letters should not be cheaply screen printed on the tag, nor should they be etched into the leather. However, this is not a feature that every Coach handbag will have. It is important to know what bag models will have the hangtags. Beware of plastic hangtags. Image of authentic Coach logo tag (hang tag): ![]() [Note:] Notice that the hangtag (above) has a metal grommet, (metal surounding the inner punch hole). Not all Coach handbags will have a hangtag with a metal grommet. Just another example of how a contemporary Coach detail may not be a detail on an older model. This is why Coach can be tricky. Not every Coach handbag has had a metal grommet. Coach did not start using metal grommets on their hangtags consitantly until around '03. [Coachhangtag(no grommet)]: This is an example of a real Coach hangtag with no metal grommet. This would be more common on bags proir to 2003. [Note]: The punch hole for the chain should be a snug fit, not a gaping hole. A gaping hole, with too much room is a sign of a fake Coach handbag. Also, the top of the Coach "A" should be pointy, not squared off, (img below, second down). ![]() The Coach "A": The "A" in Coach should always come to a fine point. The "A" should never have a flat top. Below is an image of an authentic Coach "A": [Note]: Notice the point on top of the [ A ]. A flat top "A" would be a sign of a fake Coach. ![]() Image below of a hangtag with a rounded A: You may have to look closely to see the rounded top, but it is quite different from the pointed A top (pictured above). ![]() [Note]: The above hangtag has a number of qualities that are incorrect other than the rounded A point. The logo itself is shifted too far towards the punch hole side and not centered. The font on the Coach logo, namely the A has lines in the letter that are too thin. Also, the grommet looks like it has been cheaply popped in. It is poking out in places and uneven inside the punch hole. Also, the Logo itself is not raised up. The letters appear to be etched into the leather. Below is an image of another fake Coach Hangtag: The image below has several font problems. ![]() [Note]: The font in the (above) hangtag is horrible. The A does not have the famous top point, but that is not even the worst of it. The second C in Coach looks like it was not correctly stamped into the hangtag, as it is not fully formed and appears to have a much shorter bottom loop than the first C. This might slip past some people had the two C's been consistant. If they both had shorter bottom loops, this would have looked more natural, but the fact that the two C's are in such contrast makes this such an obvious tell. And besides having the loop problem, both C's look like they are of different overall sizes. This is a major flaw. Also, the H is incorrect. At the top of the letter H, the horizontal feet on the top left side of the letter appear to be curving up. An authentic Coach H should have perfectly flat horizontal feet at the top and the bottom of the letter. Side note: The entire stamp itself has been stamped into the hangtag crooked. 6. Zippers: Coach uses "YKK" zippers. Always check for the stamp on all the zippers. Although the zipper pull on a real Coach bag will be made of leather or a series of rings, the actual zipper mechanism which pulls the two sides of the zipper together should be embossed with the letters "YKK". [Note]: YKK is a high quality manufacturer of zippers, and their YKK logo may be hard to find or see. You may need a magnifying glass to see the YKK stamp, especially with the tiny interior zippers. [Beware] → Many of the newer bags do not have YKK stamped on the outer zipper, but instead it will be found on the interior zipper. Always check all the zippers from every angle. Lack of the YKK stamp on any particular zipper does not always indicate the handbag is fake. Also, some fake bags will have the YKK stamped on the zippers. The YKK zipper stamp is just a rule of thumb, something to check for when doing a handbag inspection, it is not conclusive evidence on its own. [Note]: The image below is an example of the aforementioned point. The 2006 handbag this YKK zipper was on, did not have the YKK stamp on the outer zipper, it was only found on the tiny interior zipper.
