The authentic Ferragamo sunglasses (above), display the standard lens clear. The lens sticker
should generally be clear, and located in the top of the left lens
(when looking through the glasses). Also notice the Ferragamo temple logo. It is
sitting on top of the temple arm, noticably raised above the temple. When the
Ferragamo glasses have this particular temple design, the logo piece should always maintain
an equal and even surface. This means that the entire temple logo should be the same
raised distance above the temple, similiar to the
Ray Ban Wayfarer temple logo. Always measuring the same height above the temple arm from left to
right, creating and even, flat surface. Any discrepencies in the measurement
should always give rise to caution. This would
indicate a cheaply, or quickly fastened temple piece.
The image of the real Salvatore Ferragamo glasses (left) displays the inner right temple arm. This
is where the origin details of the sunglasses will be printed. In this image, the description states:
Salvatore Ferragamo Made in Italy B CE. The print should generally be in this order most
(if not all) of the time. But the order is not as important, as most counterfeits will have this correct.
More important are the details: The fonts. The
Salvatore Ferragamo font
is discussed in more detail
here. For now, the focus will be on the rest of the
print:
MADE IN ITALY
B
CE [The CE stamp references the products compliance
with the international technical and safety standards issued by the European
Union. (European Community[CE])].
The first detail to recognize is that the Made in Italy is stamped in all capital block letters. The
"B" is also. However, the CE is an enlarged font, different altogether from the previous print.
When compared to the print on the right inner temple of a pair of
fake Salvatore Ferragamo sunglasses (below), the differences begin to illuminate:
In the image of the fake Salvatore Ferragamo sunglasses (left), the differences are quite
obvious in this case. First the the CE font is noticably smaller, about the size of the Made in Italy
font. Also, the letter is missing between the made in italy and the CE. This letter's purpose
is currently unkown, but it is possible that it is has to do with season. But the actual purpose of the
letter (in this
case) is not needed to call attention to the fake. The absence of the letter is enough to raise
a red flag. [ebay]Salvatore Ferragamo $0-99 Salvatore Ferragamo $100-150 Salvatore Ferragamo $151-200 Salvatore Ferragamo $201 and up
The authentic Salvatore Ferragamo sunglass image (left) is displaying the print on the inner
left temple arm. The information printed here generally concerns the model, color and dimensions:
2168-B 102/3 57[]15 130 3N. This information should be the same info that is seen on any stickers or
retail tags etc. This information is broken down in further detail below.
3. 3N [This refers to the lens category and strength.
Lens:N[normal] P[Polarizing] F[photochromatic]
0[for dimmed brightness[
1[for partly sunny]
2[for medium brightness]
3[for high brightness]
4[for exceptional brightness]
NOTE: Category 4 glasses are not recommended when driving.
3N is for normal, high brightness.
The fake Ferragamo sunglasses (left) display some of details of the authentic Salvatore Ferragamo
glasses pictured (above), but not all of them. The most obvious detail that tosses the counterfeit
glasses into direct contrast with the authentic glasses is the lack of a 3N lens description/strength code at the end of the temple print. Also,
the dimension for the temple arm length (the last number in the dimension sequence), is too close the
first two dimensions when compared to the dimension spacing shown on the authentic glasses. The number 125(temple arm)
should be further apart from the number 17(bridge). Note: Some of the print is partially blocked
by the logo of the website that was selling the fake Ferragamo sunglasses.
