Fashion Free Rolling | Tommy Santini
Don’t be a fashion consumer, start fashion free rolling. Do you want to spend next to nothing on your next pair of Tom Ford sunglasses? Of course you do. Well in this guide, I will show you a few simple ways to make it happen. Top luxury brands like Gucci and Ray Ban [etc] usually hold around 15% to 30% of their original retail value. If you spend $400 on a pair of Gucci sunglasses, wear them throughout the summer and keep them in good condition, those sunglasses are still worth between $60 to $150. So big deal right? A small return but not much of an investment and certainly not free. But what if you purchased those Gucci sunglasses on eBay for $99? Now we’re talking value. Even if your wore the glasses for the entire summer, those used Gucci glasses can still return your original $99. But not on ebay. Due to the high volume of new designer merchandise at great prices on eBay, used designer merchandise can not compete. But it can somewhere else. Craigslist. Now Craigslist needs no introduction, most everyone with internet access is familiar with them. And for reasons both personal and financial, not everyone has an ebay account nor do they shop online. Not everyone wants to wait for shipping. So free local want ad sites like Craigslist stay stuffed with bargain merchandise. The sites are easy to navigate and they are free. No sign up. No account needed. And it’s local so the buyer can get their merchandise that day. And because the overall volume of new merchandise on Craigslist is significantly lower than on ebay, used merchandise draws a better return. And it can be fast and simple to do. Here’s an example: [1] I bought a pair of Gucci sunglasses a few years ago on ebay for $112, wore them for three months before I started to want a new style. With money being tight, I decided I would sell my glasses and use that money towards my new pair. So I took a few pictures and posted an ad on Craigslist. "Gucci sunglasses $80". I continued wearing them while my ad ran. Similar to someone driving around in a car with a FOR SALE sign taped to the window. [2] After about a week I got a call from a potential buyer, met them at a nearby Starbucks and quickly sold the glasses for $80. I was content with the results. I bought a pair of Gucci sunglasses, wore them for three months, and recovered most of my money. And then I started thinking. Maybe I could recover all my money on my next pair. So I trolled the pages of ebay with a different logic. Sure I was thinking style, but now I was also thinking about my return. [3] My next pair I chose Gucci again and paid $109. Immediately after receiving the glasses, I posted an ad on Craigslist for “gently used” Gucci sunglasses $149, and I wore the glasses while my ad ran. I reposted the ad twice, and after three weeks I got a call, met the potential buyer at the same Starbucks, and after some entertaining bartering, sold the glasses for $115. Cool. I got to wear the glasses for three weeks and my whopping $6 profit covered my double espresso. [4] At the time, with money being tight, this worked for me. I could continue wearing the Italian brands I love, without the wallet sting. That was the beauty. My ad was working for me while I wore the glasses. If I got a call great. If not, I still had the sunglasses I wanted. And with no real need to sell them, I could hold out for more money. Eventually someone would buy them. And then on to my next pair. To recap: In those four months, I wore two pairs of Gucci sunglasses, a retail value of $800, for a meager $26. I was (almost) fashion free rolling. And with a tweak here and there, I knew I could eventually show a profit. [5] So I continued to buy, post, wear and sell. Utilizing all these tools (ebay and Craigslist), while experimenting with different marketing techniques to increase my return. And you can too. Be a Fashion Free Roller. Some tips:
