[I] Women's face shapes and sunglasses. [Oval] Easy. Any shaped frame works with this face shape. [Round] Styles with high sides, and those with color and/or decoration on the temples. Avoid small, round and large frames that will make your face look rounder. Avoid frames with color or decoration on the lower rim. Example: Gucci 2711/S [Heart:] Choose smaller frames without decoration on the temples. You could try rounded, slender or square styles with low sides. Try to avoid styles that are wide at the top of the frames. Example: Carrera Flag 4 [Triangular] Try bold, strong and wide shapes and avoid small, narrow frames. Example Dior Flavour [Square] Round and oval style frames may help to soften the jaw line. Try to avoid thin angular and square frames, as these will exaggerate square features. Example: Hugo Boss 0027/S [Long] To create a balance, try wider frames with a strong top line. A large, square frame will help hide a long, oval face. Example: Boucheron 78/S [II] Men's sunglasses and face shapes. (i) [Rule of thumb] Round faces should go with square or retangular frames. Square faces should decide on more rounded or oval-shaped frames. Match up your sunglasses to your nose: [Wide nose] Rimless and metal frames will fit men with wider noses best because they allow the nose to blend in with the lenses. However, plastic frames with a low bridge will make wide noses look pinched. [Long nose] Try a straight, horizontal, plastic frame with a low bridge, as it'll help break up the line of your face. [Skinny nose] Any frame fits just fine. [Small button nose] Try metal framed glasses with high bridges, which will help expose more of the nose. Match up your shades to your eyes: [Close-set eyes] If your eyes are closer together, you can hide this by purchasing a smaller pair of sunglasses. Smaller glasses will allow your eyes to center within the lenses. Try John Lennon like shades if your eyes are extremely close. [Wide-set eyes] Try larger rimless shades or plastic styled frames. The wider frame will help conceal the wider distance between your eyes. Info on color lenses: [Gray and brown lenses] The most common color for sunglasses. They do not affect color perception. [Orange-Brown (Amber)] Orange-Brown lenses are a good choice for those with macular degeneration since they filter out UV and blue light rays for maximum retinal protection. [1. Blue light rays] This can damage the retina and lead to macular degeneration (Vision loss from degeneration in parts of the eye). To make sure your sunglasses protect you from this, when you are outside, a blue sky should appear gray with these on. [Yellow lenses] Sometimes referred to as "blue blockers" because the color keeps blue light from entering the lens. These are often the choice for target shooters because it decreases haze and makes objects appear sharper, with more contrast. [Green lenses] Or it's cousin G-15 (The Ray-Ban lens color), is sometimes used as a sunglass color, though brown and gray are the most popular sun shades. Green does distort color less than other colors such as yellow and red. [Red lenses] Red is a very uncomfortable color to look through, though it does have applications for certain ocular pathologies. Some do enjoy seeing the world through rose colored lenses. UV protection and lenses: It is important to know about the different types of sunglasses lenses so that you can choose the ones that will best protect you against UV rays. Here is a guide to help you. [Blue-blockers] These lenses block blue light. These sunglasses generally have amber lenses and are often popular among skiers and boaters. [Mirror-coated lenses] These limit the amount of light entering your eyes. [Gradient lenses] These lenses are tinted from top to bottom, so top lens is the darkest. Good for driving. On the other hand, double gradient lenses are also tinted from the bottom up with a clear middle, and are not good for driving. [Photochromatic lenses] Lenses that adjust their level of darkness based on the amount of UV light they are exposed to. [Polarized lenses] These lenses prevent reflected glare and are popular for water and snow sports.
