Ray Ban I
Ray Ban II ← Ray Ban III Ray Ban IV Ray Ban counterfeit detection is not only about the glasses. Often times the details that will clue you in on the authenticity are not the components of the actual frames, but the elements of the accessory package. This includes the sunglass case, dustcloth, care book and box. [Also noted are accessory elements that are found on the glasses, such as the lens sticker (examples below).] Ray Ban lens stickers:The lens sticker should be on the outside of the lens, often times on the left lens (if you are looking at the glasses from the inside out). And this detail should also be of higher quality. A sloppy looking lens sticker is a red flag, and more scrutiny of the glasses would be recommended. Below is an image of an authentic G-15 sticker: Note: The goldish color to the sticker, and a foil look. Not just standard paper. Also the black emblem is centered within the gold circle (more on this below). The image below is a fake G-15 sticker: [However, before we look at the lens sticker it is important to note that the gold tag you see tied to the frame of the glasses with a white string has, "Baucsh & Lomb" written directly under the "Ray Ban." (It is a little difficult to see from the angle in picture). However, directly contrasting what we know about Ray Ban, we see written on the inner arm of the glasses, "Made in Italy". But more striking, we see a partial "Luxottica group" logo written on the care book in the far left of the image. So here we have a Bausch & Lomb gold tag along with a Luxottica care book in the same Ray Ban package. Always check for the B&L + Luxottica error detail.] Note: Two images above, the real and the fake, at first glance do not appear to be that different. But when the details are scrutinized with greater intensity, the imperfections of the fake sunglass package begin to surface. The logo on the fake box does not look too bad when compared to the real box. But what we are focusing on in this picture is the sticker. The G-15 sticker is off-centered and the incorrect color. When comparing the colors, the real sticker has a gold hue, like a foil, and the fake sticker has more of a standard yellow color. However, depending on the picture, the real sticker may appear bright yellow. And also some real stickers may actually have a more yellow tint to them, so the color is secondary to the next point: The emblem is off-center. Below is a diagram of the real vs. fake sticker. Below is another authentic G-15 sticker: This is image was added to show the consistancy of the centered sticker. Ray Ban has quality standards, however every sticker will not be 100% perfect, but it should not be as off-centered as in the image of the fake sticker. Below is an image of a fake Ray-Ban sunglass package: Note: The trademark symbol seems to be absent from the red logo on the box. The stitches per inch, a common fake handbag spotting tell, seem to be too long when compared to the real case (below). The shape of the case is also in conflict with the real case below, and the dustcloth is th wrong color (blue), and the logo on the dustcloth seems to have a mistake concerning the "B", just to make matters worse. This means that if the dust cloth was the correct color, there would still be the font problem. F/N: The glasses have an incorrect plastic tag tied to the frames. And the red Ray Ban logo framed inside the silver lens sticker is off-center. *A universal sign of low quality. Below is an image of a real Ray Ban package: Note: The trademark symbol is in the correct spot on the box. The stitches per inch are much smaller and tighter, evident of a higher quality stitch job. And the dustcloth is the correct color and logo font. Below is an image of a fake Ray Ban: The lens sticker here does not have the trademark symbol. Note: Ray ban will always display the trademark symbol next to their name or above or below it. Below is an image of another fake Ray Ban sunglass package: Here we have multiple problems, some that have already been dealt with, and some new tells. Note: The trademark is missing on the box, and the G-15 sticker is cleary off-center, much worse than the original example given. However this package does have the correct color dustcloth, and there is a trademark symbol following the logo, but the trademark symbol seems a little too large. Also, the temple logo looks to be poking out a little too far. Temple logos on real Ray Ban are not glued on, or fastened on with something, they are a part of the temple themselves, and should only be poking out about 1/4 centimeter. Below is an image of the fake Wayfarer from earlier: Note the distance the logo is poking out from the temple. In this image, the temple logo looks to be poking out in places, but perfectly flush with the temple in others. Below is an image of an authentic Wayfarer temple logo: Notice how the logo is part of the frame, and is poking out equally everywhere. There is no uneven levels like the fake logo (above). And it is not poking out to far in places like the fake temple logo (two above). Also, you can get a good look at the lens stamp, and see how the positions are all relative to each other. Also, if you look at the fake glasses (above), you will notice that the lens stamp is on the wrong lens! Another intersesting detail is the way the real Wayfarer glasses seem to lean. The lenses seem to have a foreword slant, whereas the fake glasses seem to stand more upright. Funny Ray Ban Commercial: Trending (ebay)
