F/N: When doing this examination we magnifyed a heat stamp on a Louis Vuitton Artsy, made in Spain. We recommend locating the largest stamp on the LV handbag when applying the Lotus test.
† The image's light and dark properties were enhanced to determine with the best possible accuracy the true edges of the impressions. Through online images, the interface between leather and edge becomes inevitably blurred and 100% precision is nearly impossible. However, the data should be accurate enough to develop a powerful rule-of-thumb online font analysis.

Below is a breakdown of the LO letters in the Louis Vuitton stamp:



The first and most powerful detail concerning simple detection is the width of the L and the width of the O. The width of the O should be 2x that of the width of the L.
This is demonstrated by comparing: (L) the distance from a → b, to (O), the distance between c → d.
The zone marked in blue (z), represents the safe zone (allowable deviation) the measurement can fall in before a red flag is raised.

• The distance from a → b = L
• The distance from c → d = O
• Safe zone (area of allowable deviation) = Z | O - (.065*O) ≤ Z ≤ O
  † Note: L*2 should not exceed the width of O
  †† F/N: Under lower magnification, the L and O may appear to overlap, but the true edges don't seem to to overlap (in the above example). Rather the L stamp (east) border and the O stamp (west) border seem to touch the same dividing white peaked area, creating a shared border.

† → Starting from (c) the far edge of the left side of the O, then L*2 should fall within zone (z). This essentially runs from the middle of the far right O impression to the far right edge.
†† However, if the image magnification is less intense, then it is fine if L*2 should line up anywhere within the right stamped area of the O. This is acceptable deviation.

Low magnification: LO_Pass ⇔ O = L*2

High magnification: LO_Pass ⇔ L*2 → Z

Below is an image with the second set of measurements concerning the LO:



This measurement concerns only the L, by comparing the height vs. the width. From this image, it was determined that the height of the vertical L (Lh) prong is 2.222 x the width of (L). Often times, many fakes handbags simply double (or is < double) the size of the vertical prong vs. the horizontal leg. These would be standard font relationships, but not Louis Vuitton fonts. It is these extra tweaks and subtle details that define the LV fonts. And it is with these details that you can greatly increase your counterfeit protection.
Some L heights will reach L*2.5, but for the purpose of this guide we will use the 2.22 value.

[Lh] Format

Low magnification: LO_Pass ⇔ Lh = L*2.22 ± .14

High magnification: Same

*Lh = height of vertical L prong *L = width of L *Variance is inevitable due to difficulty establishing a true edge of the font. With internet images (online listings) the edges are not always easily definable due to the blurring at higher magnifications, (or the lack of detail at smaller magnification). You may measure a pixel or two less on one edge, and a pixel or two more on the other etc. * LO_Pass = The LO in Louis in consistent with that which is authentic L.V. font (i) With the Lh measurement you can determine the correct measurements for the entire LO font: (ii) L*H = Lh = O*H/2 *H = 2.22-2.5 *L = width of L *Lh = height of L *O = width of O

After the LO test, the T, (or TT) comparison should begin.

The most important detail concerning the TT in Vuitton is that they are not intended to be touching. Many fake LV bags will display a connected TT as if they share the same top cross line. That being said, the TT in authentic Louis Vuitton fonts can often appear to be touching depending on the image quality or the type of heat stamp or impression used. But usually after magnification, the TT will show that at the very least, they were not intended to be touching, even if they appear so.

II. Below is an image magnification on an authentic TT that appeared to have the TT touching.

The image above, even at this high magnification, displays areas of blurred pixel overlap. But looking closely, you can still manage to see where the backing leather color splices through the TT. This is evidence of separation. Taken at smaller magnifications would be indiscernible to the eye and appear as if the top cross was a single stamp.

† Note: There may be a difference in Spain and France bags concerning how close the font is compressed. For both the LO and the TT details. Bags made in France may have tighter fonts than bags made in Spain.
